Matthew Mehnert graduated from Colgate University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2001. He graduated cum laude from the Hofstra University School of Law in 2004. While enrolled at Hofstra, Matthew served as a Notes & Comments Editor for the Hofstra University Labor & Employment Law Journal and received both the Jonathan Falk Memorial Scholarship and University Distinction for excellence in labor & employment law courses. In addition, Matthew co-authored the work Something Every Lawyer Needs to Know: The Employer-Employee Distinction in the Modern Law Firm, which was published in the Spring 2004 edition of the Hofstra University Labor & Employment Law Journall.

Prior to joining MSSSV, Matthew was an associate with a management-side labor & employment law firm where he litigated matters involving all forms of discrimination, unfair labor practices, wrongful termination, and breach of employment contract. Matthew also counseled employers on day-to-day matters involving labor and employment law, including employee discipline, termination, record-keeping requirements, employee classifications and employment policies. Matthew also spent time in an in-house position with a national clothing retailer where he oversaw employee and labor relations throughout the country, including performing countless investigations into allegations of misconduct and harassment.

Matthew also spent time in an in-house position with a national clothing retailer.

During his time with MSSSV, Matthew has continued to counsel employers with respect to matters involving discrimination and harassment as well as employee discipline and discharge. In addition, he has counseled public entities in civil rights matters, including due process claims, equal protection claims, false arrest, malicious prosecution, retaliation under the First Amendment and conspiracy charges.

Matthew is admitted to practice in the State of New York and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
